Invitation to attend Suffolk County Reuse and Recycling Network Workshops!

Suffolk County Council are looking for groups within the community and voluntary sector interested in applying for Grants as part of the Suffolk Reuse and Recycling Grant scheme. The scheme is open to groups who currently work with or would like to start working on Recycling and Reuse within the Suffolk area.
Does your Group divert waste from landfill? Do you reuse items that would normally be scrapped? Can you offer volunteering, training or employment opportunities to people disadvantaged in the workplace?
If the answer is yes you could be able to apply for a grant of up to £25,000!
Workshops have been arranged for interested parties:
14th October 2009 – Ipswich Town Football Club, Ipswich 1.30pm-3.30pm
19th October 2009 – Orbis Energy Centre, Lowestoft 10.00am – 12.30 pm
23rd October 2009 – Athenaeum, Bury St. Edmunds 10.00am – 12.30pm

  | FREE OFFICE FURNITURE - LONDON!
 Southwark Council has cleared several buildings to sell and is offering the left-over furniture FREE to voluntary and community groups to enable it to be reused. This office furniture includes desks, chairs and cupboards, of various styles. They have at least 300 desks and chairs! Most desks are either 1600mm or 1800mm wide with a maximum depth of 1200mm. Please remember to measure the maximum width of the area you have for the desk or cupboard to fit into. The chairs are all fully functional office chairs on wheel bases, some with arms and others without. To arrange a viewing appointment please email: nicola.parker@southwark.gov.uk. Viewing dates will be Monday 25–Wednesday 27 January, when your details will be placed on the furniture you have chosen. There will then be two collection days, Thursday 28 and Friday 29 January. Porters will bring your furniture to the front entrance of the buildings, where you will be able to take it away.

  | MORE GOVERNMENT FOCUS ON BUSINESS WASTE? DEFRA SLATED FOR "DISPROPORTIONATE" FOCUS ON DOMESTIC WASTE
 In its review, the cross-party Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee claimed that Defra's waste strategy showed a "disproportionate focus" on household waste, given that it accounted for only 9% of the 330 million tonnes of waste produced annually across the whole of the UK.
The review concluded that Defra policy was too focused on the domestic waste stream
It claimed that the department was only "belatedly" attempting to address issue surrounding the amount of waste coming from business and commercial and industrial (C&I) sources. Read the full article at Letsrecycle.com
